Hammarkullekarnevalen – against racism and xenophobics 2010.

Wednesday, May 19th, 2010

Link to Hammarkullekarnevalens homepage.

The carnival is since 1974, a yearly tradition in Hammarkullen. The carnival was started by youth and adults through “Frisco project” on Hammarkullens leisure farm, where the first spring carnival was held. In the late 70s they made a stop for 2 years. Since 1979 have the Latin American organization participated with special dances and costumes. For every year the arrangement has grown and developed to What it has been today; a wide cultural folk festival. It is easy to understand that Hammarkull child is pride over ‘hers’ carnival and its neighborhood.

This Year Carnival will be held May 28 to 30 May.

You can see pictures from earlier years here in the blog. Link to Hammarkullekarnevalen.

Röe Gård (farm) Shop & Café – Brastad, Sweden.

Roe Gård

Every time we are visiting Brastad in Sweden we are making an effort to visit Röe Gård. Here they have Gift Shop, Café, Handicrafts, Culture, Animals
and much more. The kids have their own playground and they can watch the animals.

Roe Gård

The café shop is brand new and it was the first time for us to see it. They serve lunch, dinner and coffee and cakes.

Roe Gård
The shop is located in an old granary which has a history that goes back to the 19th century.

Here you can find many things to buy.

And a lot of Christmas presents.

Roe Gård

Behind the house you will find a large garden with apple trees and also the rabbits and the hens.

The farm is located north of Uddevalla which is north of Göteborg and it has almost been a tradition for us to visit the place whenever we have the opportunity. Normally we use about 1-2 hour on a visit and it is a pleasant and nice thing to do on a Sunday morning.

Surströmming – Do you know about someone who have tasted it ?

Saturday, August 16th, 2008

http://winesworld.net/foto/surst.jpgSurströmming (“soured (Baltic) herring”) is a northern Swedish delicacy consisting of fermented Baltic herring. Surströmming is sold in cans, which when opened release a strong smell. Because of the smell, the dish is often eaten outdoors. However, opening the can under water or inside a plastic bag, somewhat lessens the smell, as well as prevents the person opening it from being soaked in brine, as the fermentation often builds up a considerable pressure inside the can.
