Langemarksgaard (Farm) – Samsø, Denmark.

Sunday, August 9th, 2009

On Samsø there are many little farms that have a little shop where they sell their products. Here we have visited one of them called Langemarksgaard. They sell many vegetables, fruits, berries, honey, juice etc. All the vegetables are as fresh as it can be and on Samsø it is a part of the natural daily shopping.

Langemarksgaard

On the way home we did stop here to get some vegetables and potatoes for today’s dinner.

Langemarksgaard

This is as fare you can get the big supermarkets.

Langemarksgaard

Here you can see the famous Samsø potatoes.

Samsø Labyrinten – The World’s Biggest Maze.

Friday, July 17th, 2009

Samsø Labyrinten is the world’s biggest maze and it is really huge! And it is located in Samsø a Danish island.

Samsø Labyrinten

As you can see it is a lot of trees and they are really high and it is impossible to ‘cheat’.

Samsø Labyrinten

This is the entrance where we bought the tickets and the puzzle with questions about Astrid Lindgren. Samsø Labyrinten is designed by Erik and Karen Poulsen and has an area of 645,835 ft2 (60,000 m2). Its path measures 16,830 ft (5,130 m). The maze opened to the public on May 6 2000. Go exploring and find your way to one of the mysterious places with the Temple, the Stone Circle, Place of H.C. Andersen or the Pyramid. Test your knowledge with exciting puzzles – in english. Choose yourself the distination in the Maze and duration of the tour from half an hour to 1½ hours.

Samsø Labyrinten

The paths are large and wide so no feelings of confinements.

Samsø Labyrinten

This is one of the poles with a number which gives us a question on the puzzle and a lead to the temple.

Samsø Labyrinten

Some art are located around the maze to look at.

Samsø Labyrinten

At last at the temple with a few misses under ways. This is a great activity for a family and for us. We did get to walk a lot and there were a lot of activities during the walking. We do recommend good footwear and not to visit the maze on the hottest summer days.

Randers Regnskov (Tropical Zoo), Denmark.

Monday, July 13th, 2009

Randers Regnskov

We have visited Randers Regnskov (Rain forest) in Denmark. Randers Regnskov is a tropical zoo and its goal is to make your visit unforgettable. As guest here, you walk the areas that are inhabited by the animals, while also experiencing the hot and humid climate that the majority of the animals and plants thrive in. One moment the animals will hide behind branches and rocks, only to get so close the next moment that you will be able to spot the dirt on a monkey’s fingernails or feel the rush of air from the wings of a bird.

The temperature in the domes is between 20 and 30 degrees Celsius all year round, and the atmospheric humidity is close to 100%, so dress lightly.

Randers Regnskov

This is a map to find Randers in Denmark.

Randers Regnskov

This is the front side of the building.

Randers Regnskov

There is a lot of snakes and reptiles in the zoo.

Randers Regnskov

This is a very lazy animal.

Randers Regnskov

There are many kinds of birds I don’t know the names of.

Randers Regnskov

And there is many species of the crocodile type.

Randers Regnskov

This is a big one.

There are so many animals in the zoo that we just had time to see a fraction of them so this is a place we will have to come back to another time. It was a hot summer day and the temperature outside was almost as inside and we did experience that maybe next time we go in the winter or just a day where the temperature outside is cooler. We do love the zoo and it is a complete new experience if you like to visit zoos and see animals.

Legoland, Denmark more than just Lego.

Sunday, April 12th, 2009

LegolandLegoland

Legoland
has much more to offer that just Lego. It has grown to be a full amusement park. We did spend our Easter holiday in Denmark again and we got the change to visit Legoland. Here is some pictures from the visit.

In this tower you need to use your own power to get to the top.

Legoland
It is Lego figures all over the park, which makes the visit special and fun.
Legoland
Even up in the poles there are lego.
Legoland
Legoland
Lego in water and on the land.
Legoland
There are many details to look at.

Legoland
The ducks are real!
Legoland
This is a copy of Billund Airport which is nearby. Billund Airport is the second largest in Denmark.
Legoland
And of course there is much Lego.
Legoland
There are many activities in and around water.
Legoland
A little bit from Sweden too.
Legoland
Bryggen in Bergen are here.
Legoland
Look at the dragon at the entrance to the castle.

We did end the visit with dinner at the castle roof. The food was very high standard for an park like this.

Totally set we were very happy with the visit. There was lot of things to do and look at and in the Easter it is not high seasons so we did not have the long queues and there were enough visitors to make it alive and fun.

Easter 2008 in Skagen, Denmark.

Sunday, September 14th, 2008

http://winesworld.net/foto/skagen-map.jpgThis Easter we went to Skagen in Denmark, at the top of Denmark. This place is very popular in the summertime, but we think that it is too crowded then so Easter is a fine time to see the place and get around without too many tourists. We rented a house in the middle of the main street so it was easy to go to the shop without using the car.

http://winesworld.net/foto/skagen-h.jpg

The houses in this little place are mostly yellow and small and sweet to look at.
http://winesworld.net/foto/harbour.jpg
The harbor is large and there are many fish bouts and restaurants which serves a lot of food from the sea.

http://winesworld.net/foto/beach.jpg

The beach is large to and attracts a lot of tourists even in the winter time, just for looking.

http://winesworld.net/foto/skagen.jpg

They have an old lighthouse at the beach and there is about 200 stairs to the top.

http://winesworld.net/foto/lighthouse3.jpg

There is great view at the top of the lighthouse.

http://winesworld.net/foto/church.jpg

This church is a great tourist’s attraction because most of it is buried under the sand and all you can see is the top of it.

As always in Denmark it is a fine place for the family and the kids. And we enjoyed a lot of good food, wine and Danish pastry.

We have already booked a place in Denmark for the next years Easter. This time we will travel a little more south and visit Ringkoebing and I guess there will be a day at the LEGOLAND in Billund.

Winegrower and Winemaker

Both the grapegrower and head winemaker at Cortes de Cima. Born in Skals, Denmark, he took his degree in mechanical engineering before leaving his native country for the East, and spent the next 23 years in Malaysia as engineer for a Danish plantation company, United Plantations. There he worked with a great variety of tropical commodities, including palm oil, coconut oil, cocoa and tea. While in Malaysia, Hans followed the company tradition of flying, private airplanes being the best means of getting around plantations surrounded by tropical jungle.

He keeps this tradition alive at Cortes de Cima, using his Cessna aircraft for aerial observation and visiting his vineyards.

Holiday at Læsø a Danish island part V.

Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

We have been 14 days at Læsø a Danish island 30 km. out of Fredrikshavn. We want to tell a little about the general vacation on the island and the activities that are found there. The island has about 2,200 residents, but in summertime up to 110,000 tourists is visiting.

http://winesworld.net/foto/leso.jpg

The island is about 20 km long and half the size in wide. There are many bike ways and very nice to bike on (the highest point is about 45 meters). The island is best for those who want a quiet calm, swimming, cycle type of vacation. For those who like cities and a lot of activities in the holiday season, this is not the place. There is not much traffic, and in general by peaceful surroundings. To get to the island we had to take a boat to Fredrikshavn and then take another boat back out to the island.

The tast of Læsø’s jomfruhummer ( Nephrops norvegicus – Norway lobster ).

We cannot have been on the island without having tasted on the island’s major export item namely jomfruhummeren (Norway lobster). And we had some luck and got to taste a fresh black lobster as well, even if it was not entirely in the season yet.http://winesworld.net/foto/hummer.jpg

http://winesworld.net/foto/jomfruhummer.jpg

We end this series with some photos of the island. And will eventually recommend people who want a vacation with content; quiet, relaxing, great activities for children, swimming, great scenery, good food and an entire island that is really designed for tourists and especially families with children.

Holiday at Læsø a Danish island part IV.

A visit to Læsø Uldstue ( wool cottage ) – a different and evocative store.

http://winesworld.net/foto/ullstue1.jpg

The store is located in rural areas in an old farm with seaweed and grass on the roof. The farm itself is worth a visit.

http://winesworld.net/foto/ullstue3.jpg

The farm is as all old farms on Læsø built in a rectangle with the farmyard and a well in the middle.

http://winesworld.net/foto/ullstue2.jpghttp://winesworld.net/foto/ullstue7.jpg

Inside the store can be found just about everything that can be made of wool and most are handmade.

http://winesworld.net/foto/ullstue5.jpg

As you can see there is a wide range.

http://winesworld.net/foto/ullstue6.jpg

Uldstuen has 600 lambs and sheep graze just outside the store and they deliver all the wool they need for day-to-day operations.

http://winesworld.net/foto/ullstue4.jpg

We had to buy us something from the shop and even for those who are not as interested in wool and clothing; it is worth taking the trip just to look at the farm and the environment.

Krobækgaard offer following activities:

* Horse back riding

* Trip – horse and wagon

* Weekend stay

* Training and education

* Bed and Breakfast

* Cafe

We shall, however, take for us what is going on every Wednesday evening in Krogbækgaard, namely Grilled wild boar and musical entertainment in the farms backyard. It costs 295.- Dkr. each and it included all the food you can eat during the evening. Beverage however, must be purchased. In addition to the actual meat, there was a wonderful buffet with all kinds of food. I will let the images speak for themselves, so you see what was served.

http://winesworld.net/foto/kro7.jpghttp://winesworld.net/foto/kro9.jpg
As you can see from the pictures, everyone is in a fine and relaxed mood. And not to forget, all the good food!
http://winesworld.net/foto/kro6.jpg
This was the first round of food. The bread was also very good.

http://winesworld.net/foto/kro3.jpghttp://winesworld.net/foto/kro1.jpg
Here are the musician who stood for today’s entertainment. He was Danish and played just so high that we were able to enjoy the music and talk together without any problems. Te Chief himself accounted for the grilling and the meat was just absolutely wonderful.

http://winesworld.net/foto/kro8.jpg

http://winesworld.net/foto/kro2.jpg

This picture was taken before everything started and when we were waiting for the good food we were able to enjoy a beverage from the café.
http://winesworld.net/foto/kro5.jpg

Here is from the front of the cafe, where we sat in the sun afterwards and just relax while the kids had activities with some play apparatus. We were indeed very happy with this visit. We also had the weather on our side by over 20 degrees Celsius late in the evening. The only thing that was a little bit off is that it was a lot of flies in the backyard, but that is to be expected on a farm. We strongly recommend visiting when you are on the island.
