We are getting a lot of manual spam lately, people using my top commenter’s list and using names from it and spamming to companies sites. I will delete ALL comments which are using company names, fake names or company’s web links. If you feel your comment are deleted on the wrong terms please contact me at morten@winesworld.net. And please tell me if one of the comments is fake with your name etc.

I will use this opportunity to recommend the WP Hashcash filter for fighting SPAM. It is absolutely marvelous for fighting automatic spam script, but it cannot do anything for the spam that is manually input by real people.
Do you have any input/advice in this matter? Please do not hesitate to leave me a comment.

I think you´re doing great. I hate spam too. Some spammers must think we´re stupid.
I´m back to EC dropping.
Good week ahead!

They are most likely trying to hijack the links behind your top commenters… They are not stupid, they are probably just sheep following a spammer/guru.
And now! What, I cant comment on your awesome blog (that i bookmark and tweet about) because I happen to have a wine lovers business in the Yarra Valley, unless I strip away my identity?

YES you can! Just comment by your real name and link to the wine site which is RELEVANT to the case. In your case I see that you link to a Guest House it is more difficult for me to know if you are for real or if I should delete it as spam. The best way is just to tell me about it so that I get to know about it.

OK thanks Morten. The guest house is mine (with wife Deanne). we run a lot of wine appreciation nights and tours from here being that we are in the heart of the Yarra Valley Wine Region. It’s the only web presence I have apart from facebook. Loving your blog/style and slowly working through some of your archives relevant to us in Australia. Keep up the great work.

Now I know that you are real and I can easily part you from the SPAM and let you through. Please let me know if you change e-mail address or website link. Thanks for commenting on my blog.

It is just because your blog is a DO follow. You should’ve tag everything as No Follow so spammers won’t benefit the nofollow tag. Just my 2 cents.

I commend you for your stance against spam! I love wine, I am from British Columbia Canada! My grandfather in Greece made the BEST WINE in giant barrels. I hope to get to know you better over time.

Spam is a nightmare and as much as I try and keep on top of it it always creeps back. I wish these people would put their efforts into something productive and save us the hassle.
On a side note actual SPAM is pretty tasty, shame the two have the same name!
