Cascina Desderi.

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008

http://winesworld.net/images/desderi.jpgTrond and Roald took over Cascina Desderi; 11. Juli 2003. Here they make they own wine: Barbera d`Asti Superiore black/red. They also have apartments for rent.

The vineyard apartment hotel “Cascina Desderi” has a hilltop location on a “collina” in the state of Piedmont in the north-western corner of Italy. The Po Plain is sloping ever so slightly from the spring green rice fields around Alessandria, through the rolling hills of Monferrato – ending in the French Alps.

The name Piedmont – in Italian Piemonte – derives from the words foot and mountain. Thus this area is located at the foot of the mountain ridge separating Italy from France.

Odfjell Vinyards.

Monday, August 11th, 2008

http://winesworld.net/images/odfjell.jpgOdfjell Vinyards.
Is owned by the Odfjell family whos origin is from Bergen, Norway. The winyard lies in Maipo-valley outside Santiego. Here they make the wines: Aliara, Armador, Orzada og Rojo.

Over 25 years ago, the pioneering Norwegian Armador, (ship owner) Dan Odfjell discovered and fell in love with a small corner of the famous Maipo Valley, Chile. Born of rain in Bergen, Norway, he could not resist the attraction of the austral sun in this Virgilian setting.

Serendipity would later show that he had found land in Chile’s premium red wine producing valley, where vitis vinifera has been cultivated since the 17th century. And where a soothing coastal breeze produces a microclimate conducive to distinct and beautiful wines. This was the start of our journey, the start of what we today know as Odfjell Vineyards.

The vineyard Caiano.

Sunday, August 10th, 2008

http://winesworld.net/images/caiano.jpgIn our search for Norwegian links to the wine industry, I did stumble over the winepages to Italian Caiano. This winery is actually own by a Norwegian ( since 1997 ).

They make two kinds of Cianti:

Caiano Chianti Classico
The wine has a deep, almost ruby colour, smelling fresh and fruity, in good balance with integrated oak tones. It has the typical character of the grape Sangiovese. It stands long storage and will develop further for 2-4 years. The wine matches well among other things to grilled food, beef, pig, paste and fish, but can also be enjoyed just as it is. The Norwegians like very much Caiano Chianti Classico. The wine is sold at Vinmonopolet in Norway.

Caiano Chianti Classico Riserva
Deep red colour, fine fruitiness, with elements of dark plum, pleasant oak tones, good balance.

In addition to producing wine and olive oil, the vineyard offers both overnight stop and day visits.

L’esprit d’ Edvard Munch Wine Collection.

Saturday, August 9th, 2008

http://winesworld.net/images/munch.jpg
The world’s northernmost vineyard in the land of the midnight sun.

L’esprit d’ Edvard Munch Wine Collection is probably the most rare and exquisite collection available in modern times.

Only 75 cases of each Pinot Noir vintage 1995-1999 were produced, and all that remains is 5 cases of each vintage in our private cellar.

This distinguished wine is produced at the world’s northernmost vineyard, 60 degrees North, in Norway – in the Land of the Midnight Sun.
